Apollo fish is a famous andhra dish. If you are looking for a spicy non-veg appetizer, just go for it. You can also have it as a side dish.
I came to know about fish apollo from my friend Veda. I loved it very much;I tried at my home and it came out very well.
So I am sharing the recipe with you all.
Any firm boneles and skinless fish is suitable for this recipe(like tilapia, seer/king fish..). I am using tilapia fish fillet for this recipe.

Cuisine: South Indian | Category: Appetizer | Serves: 1-2
Prep Time: 15 min | Cook Time: 20 min
Ingredients
For Marination | |
Fish | - 250 gms |
Ginger garlic paste | - 1 tsp |
Rice flour | - 1 1/2 tsp |
Besan flour | - 1 tsp |
Egg beated | - 1/2 of the quantity |
Red chilli powder | - 1/4 tsp |
Turmeric powder | - 1 pinch |
Lemon juice | - 1 tsp |
Salt | - as required |
For seasoning | |
Ginger | - 1 tsp (finely chopped) |
Garlic | - 1 clove (finely chopped) |
Onion | - 1/4 cup (sliced) |
Green chillies | - 2 (slitted) |
Red Chilli paste | - 1 1/2 tsp |
Coriander leaves | - 2 tbs (finely chopped) |
Curd | - 2 tbs |
Curry leaves | - 1 sprig |
Cumin powder | - 1/4 tsp |
Coriander powder | - 1/4 tsp |
Salt | - as required |
Oil | - for frying and seasoning |
Instructions
1. Wash the fish and cut into long 1 inch piece or small cubes. Marinate the fish with ingredients specified under for marination (ginger garlic paste, rice flour, besan flour, egg beated, red chili powder, turmeric, lemon juice and salt).
2. Heat a pan with oil over medium high heat. Once the oil is heated, shallow fry the fish pieces. When two sides of the fish becomes nicely golden brown, transfer it to a plate.
3. In the same pan with a tablespoon of oil, add chopped ginger and garlic. Saute it for a minute. And then add curry leaves, green chillies and onion, saute till onion becomes translucent.
Now add chilli paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, coriander leaves and required salt for this masala, stir it for few seconds. (I used home made red chilli paste)
4. Reduce the flame, add curd. Stir well. Add the fried fish pieces into the pan and toss well for few minutes over medium heat. Fish pieces will absorb all the curd masala. Now it is ready to serve.
Serve it with onion slices and a lemon wedge. Enjoy the spicy and tasty Apollo fish fry!
Lax Notes
* You can deep fry the fish instead of shallow frying.
* Adjust chilli paste and green chilli according to your spice level.
* Instead of red chilli paste you can use chilli powder. But red chilli paste gives a nice flavour and color to this dish.
* I used little bit of flour for marination because I don't like a thick layer of flour coated on the fish while i eat. You can adjust flour quantity if you need.
Looks so tasty and yummy!!
