Me and my mom had aval payasam in krishna temple at my home town. Usually, they offer aval payasam as a prasadam on saturdays at 11'O clock. It was watery and had mild sweetness. I always wanted to go during that time especially for aval payasam :). My mom tried the same at home and it came out so well. I am also making this payasam often for poojas as an offering to god. It is a very simple and quick sweet recipe.
Aval Payasam
Cuisine: South Indian | Category: Sweet | Serves: 2
Prep Time: 5 min | Cook Time: 20 min
Ingredients
Aval/Poha | - 1/4 cup |
Milk | - 2 cup |
Sugar | - 4 tbs |
Caradamom | - 2 |
Cashew, Rasins | - as needed |
Ghee | - 1 tsp |
Instructions
1. Wash poha/aval in water 2 to 3 times. Drain the water and keep it aside.
2. Boil milk in a pan. When it starts to boil, add the washed aval to it. Let aval cook in milk for 5 minutes or so.
3. Add cardamom pods and sugar. Keep boiling until it reaches your desired consistency. I would prefer pourable consistency. Now switch off the flame.
4. In another pan add a tsp of ghee and roast the cashews and raisins. Now add these into the payasam.
5. Sweet and simple aval payasam is ready.
Lax Notes
* Payasam consistency is totally of your choice. You can thicker the payasam to make it like a kheer and add few strands of saffron to it.
* I made this payasam with less sugar. You can increase the quantity according to your taste.
